Discovering Your Purpose

FINDING-YOUR-PURPOSE

Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it. ~Gautama Buddh

We all have a purpose but many of us don’t know what our purpose is.  If you have ever questioned what you are supposed to do with your life, then you are seeking your purpose.  Finding your purpose involves self discovery and requires you to let go of what people have told you your purpose is or thinking that you don’t even have one.  Take some paper and a pen and jot down your thoughts, erase them, modify them and then jot down some more or build on what you wrote.  You’ll know when you’ve found it because you will find yourself greeting each day energized and full of excitement.

Life is a Gift

life is a gift (life in 5)

Cherish every moment with those you love at every stage of your journey. ~ Jack Layton

Sometimes I find myself taking the people in my life for granted by assuming that they will always be there whether I nurture the relationship or not.  Then when tragedy strikes, I ask myself why I didn’t call them or see them more often.  It takes but a moment to reach out to your loved ones and with today’s technology, there really is no excuse not to.  Life is a gift meant to be treasured.  It is a gift from God that you can only hold onto for a short period of time.

Organize Yourself by Organizing Your Living Space

organize your life (life in 5)

For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned. ~ Benjamin Franklin

Anyone that knows me knows that I do not like clutter.  My home to some looks too sparse but to me it’s just right, because I know where everything is.  I find that having too much in a small space or having a disorganized space not only leads to distraction but it’s also a time sucker.  How many minutes or hours this week have you given up searching for something, knowing that if you had just put it back where it belonged, you would have found it in 10 seconds flat?  Take a moment to organize your living space; take back the minutes or hours and do something fun with them.

Celebrate the Highs and Be Resilient in the Lows

resilience (life in 5)

Life doesn’t get any easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient. ~Steve Maraboli

Life is so unpredictable.  The highs can be so high and the lows can be really low.  No matter where you are in your life, always remember to celebrate and cherish the good moments.  Remember to stay resilient when times are tough.  Grab hold of those good memories and know that you will get back there someday.

Giving it Your All

Giving it your all (life in5)

Doing your best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment. ~Oprah Winfrey

Don’t ever be satisfied with giving anything less than your best effort.  That has been my motto for quite awhile.  I have found that constantly being in competition with myself motivates me to always do better.  I am a goal setter for my life as well as my career and when I reach that goal, I set another one with a slighter higher reach.  It provides great satisfaction at the end of the day, when you can honestly say to yourself that I have done all that I can.

The Future is Bright

th

The most liberating and empowering day of my life was the day I freed myself from my own self-destructive nonsense. ~Dr. Steve Maraboli

One cannot move forward without letting go of their past.   I have made several mistakes, have had my heart broken more than once and at times, I have let that hold me back.  Looking back I can see how I let my emotional baggage weigh me down; to stop my growth.  Today’s the day I’m letting go of my past and opening up my heart and mind to whatever possibilities the future holds for me.  I have only one go around in this life, so I better enjoy it!

Life, at Times, is a Battle

I have had many disappointments in my life and I have hosted my share of pity parties.  But now I’ve decided that I need to stop playing the victim.  If I am not where I want to be in life then I need to figure out a way to get there. If the people that surround me bring me to dark places, then it’s time to weed them out.  Life can be a battle, sometimes only within myself, but like most battles, they can be won.

Opening My Heart and Mind

An open mind leaves a chance for someone to drop a worthwhile thought in it. ~ Mark Twain

I believe that one’s morals and beliefs are shaped by how they are raised.  When something seems contrary to those beliefs, we dismiss it out of hand or find ways to find fault with it.  I am guilty of that; assuming that if someone believes something differently than me, then they must be wrong and by doing that I am not keeping an open heart or mind.  Perhaps, I should stop, listen, weigh all of the evidence and allow myself to see something from another perspective.  I believe they call that growth.

Being Thankful

being thankful

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. ~William Arthur Ward

When my life is in turmoil, I find it so easy to overlook all of the positive things in my life.  I forget that God has blessed me with good health, a wonderful family and great friends.  My goal going forward is remain aware and thankful for the good things that happen.  Life is going to hit me sideways from time to time; that’s just how life is. But when it does, I am going to close my eyes, take a deep breath and count my blessings…over and over again.

Do you remember to be thankful?

Taking Responsibilities for My Own Actions

It is a painful thing to look at your own trouble and know that you yourself and no one else has made it. ~ Sophocles

I make great decisions and then there are times I make some not so great ones.  It is easy to play the blame game, but I know when it is all said and done, I need to take ownership of my own actions.  By taking ownership I empower myself.  I am now in control of my choices, decisions and outcomes.  Not everyone will agree with my actions but hopefully they will respect them as I will try to do for them.
